Thank You Veterans....

Today is veterans day. The day to remember our vets. A day to thank them, for serving our country. I'll thank my brothers and nephews here.  My brothers served in Vietnam.. My nephews in the gulf war and Iraq. They all came home safe and I am thankful for that.
My daughter will be  having a tribute to vets in her 5th grade class. She has this every year now. She ask veterans to attend and say a little something to her class. Then the children will thank them. She has had this with her uncles and cousin as her guest vets. If the children in the class have a parent that's a vet or serving, they may ask their parents to attend this program.
Blessings to our vets and their families.  XO

    1. Missy, I thank you for your husband service. Today at Subway Two fellows came in with their fatigues on and were given free lunch. There was a 21 gun salute on our courthouse lawn. That was nice. xoxo,Susie

It's so heartwarming to hear that there are still good teachers out there and your daughter is one of them!!!
Sadly in many schools children are taught to be unpatriotic!

    1. Kimberly, My daughter started this program, when one year she asked the kids are there veterans in your family and some did not know what a vet was...so she explained and had them make a star with their name on it and they put it on the wall. Then she started asking vets to come in person...she has had some high ranking military show up . It's been a blessings too. Kids love when their own family can come. xoxo,Susie

    1. Tete, That is sweet of you. My daughter has come a long way with her program. One of the 1st men to come could never speak, then two years later he stood to speak and kept rattling the change in his pocket due to nerves. He cried too. My daughter said it put a big ache in her heart. xoxo,Susie

  6. That's a great thing your daughter does in her fifth grade class. Some schools here have school-wide programs on Veterans Day. Have a good day, Susie! xo Nellie

    1. Nellie, One year they made the stars and they were in red and white, Angie lined them like strips and the ones who had purple hearts were the star corner of the flag. The kids got excited to know they had vets in their own families. It is good to know they can thank anyone in uniform also. xoxo,Susie

So encouraging to hear your daughter is teaching her students about the men and women who serve us and our country.

    1. Nonnie, I thank your vets too. Today as Ted and I sat down to lunch we saw two men in fatigues get a free lunch at subway. Subway was offering a free sandwich to any one in uniform. It was touching. xoxo,Susie

  8. Hi Susie, What a great tribute to our vets; I love it that your daughter is passing on this valuable lesson to her students. My uncle was in WW2 and came home changed-suffered the rest of his life with memories of what he saw. Such sacrifice for our freedom~I am so grateful.
    Thanks for sharing..

  10. Susie, what a wonderful program. I hope it makes our newer generations more understanding of the situations. We have so many in our little town that are homeless and affected by PTSD. So sad..Judy

  11. I think it is important to teach our young children about military service members, past and present, who put their lives on the line each and every day, enabling the rest of us to enjoy our freedom.
Happy Veterans Day to you and yours.

    1. I took this photo from my TV...When we were at Arlington, we were asked not to film or take photos of any services. It was considered rude and invasive. We did see two services going on . I did see Audie Murphy's stone and the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown solder. xoxo,Susie

  13. Susie,
My father-in-law's funeral was at a military cemetery, and it was very nice. I'm sure your brother serving in Vietnam was very hard on all of you and especially him. My brother-in-law served in Vietnam also.

A sweet day to you, Susie.

    love,

    1. We had one brother serve in Germany /Korea too. One in Laos/ Cambodia. Two younger brothers in Viet-nam. One was shipped to Okinawa with malaria. He was on meds after that. Two other brothers never had to serve. I have six brothers. :) My brother Miles is gone now, died young from a car wreak. He was a state police detective and he had a full police (military type) funeral. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
