Just Around The Corner.....

Christmas is so very near. I have been late getting my cards out. Not receiving as many as years before. People into face book, usually make a card for their site. I still get cards from my family members. I love sending cards. This year I did not even have Christmas stamps, I used our regular ones.
Here's a couple houses near by, they are all lit up. I am not a fan of those blow up thingys but I know little kids love them. Seeing  lights makes me think back to when we were young.
Our mother  would pile us in the car and drive around town so we could see everyone's lights and trees. People used to put their tree near  the front window and light it so everyone could see it. I still do that. LOL I thought this house looked so pretty.
I will tell you about my mother's decorations. She would have lights that she had for years...those big ones...look like 50 watt bulbs in them , no kidding. She had a Santa Claus(plastic)about 3 foot tall, a North Pole sign(plastic) I think it went with the Santa, they lit up with a bulb inside. Mommy found a baby Jesus at a yard sale once. She bought it. Well every year, she would put that baby Jesus between the Santa and the North Pole sign. I used to tell my daughters, "Well it is officially Christmas Season, grandma Maddie has the baby Jesus lying between  Santa and north pole sign ." Bless her heart. Oh I miss that display so much.
Wishing all of you a beautiful weekend, XO

  3. My father would take us on the same trip around town in the car to see all the decorations. We didn't have any at our house except for the tree that we would sometimes have. Time is definitely flying! xo Nellie

    1. Nellie, I am always amazed at how similar lots of our lives are. There were many times we never had a tree. I may post my story about our first tree. I may go look at lights again tomorrow evening. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  4. I am laughing right out loud at the baby Jesus between Santa and the North Pole sign. How funny!!!!!

Yes- everyone put their tree in the window when we were kids and the room window usually faces the main street or road.

    Wonderful Memories, Susie! xo Diana

  5. Diana, you know when ever I poke fun of my mother it truly is with love. That woman had a great sense of humor...well as she aged...I am sure there was little humor while raising all us kids. I do not remember any Christmas decorations till I was in the 4th grade.Hope your weekend is going smoothly. xoxo,Susie

  7. This is the first year in about three that I've actually gotten Christmas cards sent out - with wise men stamps, no less! I'm patting myself on the back because I'm usually so negligent in this department! I too loved it when our family would drive around the town and look at Christmas lights. Once in a great while we'd drive to Minneapolis to visit friends and see the beautiful window displays on Nicollet Avenue. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, Susie. :-) P.S. I hate those inflatable Christmas lawn ornaments. Shhhhh.

  8. I didn't do cards this year. I've received a few, but since we moved in June, some don't have our new address. You are right, most use fb now for greetings. I usually write a Christmas letter...but it just didn't happen this year. Perhaps it was the pot of coffee and the new book...sigh****

    1. Wanda, I have lost some addresses, even though I have had this addresses book for 20 years....I must have shredded them with some papers, as I am always clearing out. I keep my cards from year to year. Make tags out of them, or crafts with the grands. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  11. Sounds as if you have that display in memory with you still! We went for a drive recently...couldn't find many lights and we have also not received (nor sent) as many Christmas cards as usual. Times are, unfortunately, pretty tough for a lot of us still.

  12. Susie,
I loved hearing about your mother's decorations. I remember my mom used to put red balls on her tree, and when we got a bit older, she would have an ornament or two, but I remember those red ornaments so vividly. I think that is so nice that your mom used to take all of you and go look at all the lights displayed in town. It sounds like you had a wonderful childhood, and that is a reflection on your dear mother.

Oh Susie, I am getting less Christmas cards every year too. No one sends them any more. Let us be the last ones to send Christmas cards, ok?

    love,

  13. I'm late to the party this week it's been busy in just about every phase.

My parents did the same with us as far as seeing Christmas display. There's a street a couple of town north of here ($$$) and all the houses on the street would try to outdo each other. It was quite colorful!

As soon as I finish catching up on all the posts I missed I'll finish a blog that I started over a week ago. Part of it involves Christmas lights.
