This is my chicken pot. I put a red wave petunia in it. Hope it grows well. I wanted red flower this year. Oh by the way, my wild flowers did not come up. I wondered if there was even seeds in the saw dust like packing materials.
This is a hosta on the east side of the house. It looks very nice this year. I think it may be time to split it up .
The big blue hosta around this tulip poplar tree, used to be near the shed, but got too much sun . So I split it last year and now I have four nice sized plants. Need to put mulch around this tree, hoping to keep slugs from finding the hostas. I don't think they like mulch, not sure..I know they hate salt. There's always the beer dish. I think they get drunk and drown. LOL Mom used to say she would try the beer dish, but then she would have to worry about dad drinking it. :):)
Enjoy this great new day. xo
I love red petunias! No place for hostas where we are now. There is little shade.
ReplyDeleteHave a good Thursday! xo Nellie
Nellie, Theses petunias are suppose to be wave type. I sure hope they are as good as the purple ones I had last year. Blessings for a great day. The sun is out this afternoon...loving that. xoxo, Susie
DeleteLoving your hostas Susie! You funny girl...you made me laugh about what your mom would say about the beer dish!
ReplyDeletehugs
Thank you June. :) Your month is right around the corner.:) I hope you and your family are doing well. xoxo,Susie
DeleteWhat a cute chicken and a red flower is always so pretty among all the green. I've grown a lot of hostas and they always did well in the shade. Never had a problem with pests. Enjoy your day my friend!
ReplyDeleteI learned the hard way while gardening....most times. LOL. I do think hostas do much better in shade. Hope your day is wonderful, xoxo,Susie
DeleteLove your chicken pot and the hostas! I have never tried the beer dish, but my neighbor would probably be down here quick if I did...I could always ask him for a beer! LOL
ReplyDeleteI have salted slugs , before...oh gross, they kind of get all oukey melty.. I know they love hostas for some reason. Have a great day Tete. Can't wait to see more pictures of your gardens.xoxo,Susie
DeleteYour hostas are beautiful! I had quite a few of them growing at my old home. I miss them.
ReplyDeleteBeth, I wish you could have as many flowers as you would like. Do you ever visit Brenda at "Cozy Little House"? She does some really fabulous container gardens. You could try her ideas. Blessings to you , hope your day is really good. xoxo,Susie
DeleteYou little hen looks very comfy donning that pretty petunia! I love the openness of your yard, Susie! That "don't fence me in" feeling has to be amazing!
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a great week!
withLove!
Thank you so much. Do not feel badly about leaving a letter off here and there...I do it all the time. LOL. I love my little hen flowerpot. Blessings for a great day, xoxo,Susie
Deletewhoops! "YOUR" little hen! I saw you pop up on my sidebar with that last sip of coffee before out the door to work! Should have checked my spelling a little closer!
ReplyDeletew/L
that is a lovely chicken pot, the red will be perfect!!! I used beer for slugs, and crushed egg shells, and ashes from the fireplace,
ReplyDeleteOh I could do the egg shells. I think it hurts slugs bodies to slime across sharp stuff. I know that salt melts them to a glob. :) xoxo,Susie
DeleteThe red petunia is very pretty. I have always loved hosta but we have too much sun now to grow any.
ReplyDeleteThey don't like too much sun. That is why my big blue is under the tree now. :):) This is the first red wave petunia I have ever planted. Last year I had purples and they did very well. xoxo,Susie
DeleteYour little chicken pot is adorable. A red flower will just be perfect for it.
ReplyDeleteI just planted a pink Martha Washington geranium in an old antique tea kettle. I love using fun containers.
Wanda, I have a little wooden wagon, by the garage , I plant things in ...it's really not in great shape. I just keep painting it new colors.LOL I like to see different things as containers. I saw a very small dresser on a porch and some of the drawers were planted full of flowers. Too cute. xoxo, Susie
DeleteI love the wave petunias and your red one will be really pretty in the cute pot. I'll have to remember about the beer in a dish if I ever have a slug problem. My new hostas are still awaiting planting. I can't quite figure out just where to put them. Yours looks great!
ReplyDeleteCheryl, Put them in the shade or mostly shaded area. They will grow in the sun , but not as well. Good luck, xoxo,Susie
DeleteYour Mom must have had a great wit!!
ReplyDeleteI love hostas. They are a mainstay for the flower garden and they just keep giving!
Kimberly, Once they grow and are established they can be split and divided into more plants. More for the money. Black eyed susans are like that also. xoxo, Susie
DeleteI love that chicken pot! It is the cutest piece ever! Happy gardening you!! Nicole
ReplyDeleteHi Nicole, Thanks for coming by. I love my little chicken too. He has done well the last 3 years in the front of the porch. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteI love the chicken planter. We gave my mother in law a rabbit planter and I wanted it. My daughter has a large cement basket planter A great addition to a garden and I love that yard!
ReplyDeleteI love to see things tuck here and there around yards and gardens. Not too much. Some people don't know when to say when. LOL. There's a man in our town, his yard looks like a yard sale.LOL.xoxo,Susie
DeleteI love the chicken planter...I'm trying to be more innovative with planters. I have hosta's to divide as well, lots of bare shady spots that they love as well.
ReplyDeleteI have done the snail/beer thing. Save the lids to jars, like a pickle jar and spread them around with beer in them. They have to be able to crawl in . It works!!
XO,
Jane
Blondie, You are the first person who has tried the beer lids. Glad to know it works. Those bare spots will be filled in with some nice hostas. That will be nice. Thanks for coming by, xoxo,Susie
DeleteI love petunias and that is a beauty. I've got to move some of my Hostas as well and thin them out. Hugs and lots of Love, xo
ReplyDeleteSusie, It is nice when we can split and divide plnats to get more from them. Blessings, hope you are feeling well, xoxo,Susie
DeleteHi Susie: Your little chicken pot looks so cute and I really adore hostas. I have one large one that I should divide but it's doing OK in a barrel. Something is eating at it though so I need to put something out..Happy Thursday..Judy
ReplyDeleteI found a little hosta with two leaves, I did think about maybe putting it in a pot.I mat try that now. xoxo,Susie
DeleteLove the red in your chicken planter! Your Hostas are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGert, I know you love red, cause you look good in that color. :):) xoxo,Susie
DeleteHey you! How are ya? I had to laugh at your comment on my blog about the bell! Are you crazy?!?!! No way would I give him a bell. I already hear "can you get this, can you get that?" enough, with a bell ding a ling a linging!!!! Your yard looks beautiful. You got any 'maters or edibles in it? Grow some. It's a good thing.
ReplyDeleteCindy Bee
Cindy, I wanted to grow a tomato and a pepper plant. But have none. I am behind on so much here this year. A graduation and two wedding , coming up. I may be too busy. Glad to hear from you. xoxo,Susie
DeleteSurely this is a site well worth seeing.
ReplyDeleteHi Jerry, Thank you for visiting my blog. Hope you return, Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteLooking good! I am adding a beer trap, as the slugs and snails have moved on from the hostas, and are now eating the lupin buds.
ReplyDeleteTracey, Try the beer lids. Blondie says use a pickle jar lid, something sallow enough the slugs can crawl over the edge. Good luck, xoxo,Susie
