Just so you can see I did shovel the drive..well the one that leads up to the house.
This is the old gym , out at the Sister's of Saint Joseph academy. That's some big sycamore trees . I remember when they had basketball games in this old gym. Fun times when you are a young kid.
This is a picture taken at one of the grandparents ' days . The lady in white is my mother. Yesterday would have been her birthday. I miss her. The lady with the big hair is me, the blonde is grandma Dee(Jake's dad's mom) Jake is the little boy..he's not so little any more.
I want to tell this story of Jake and Grandma Maddie(my mom). Mom always had a pair of shoes on her porch, for wearing in the yard when the grass had dew. She said some times she would come home and those shoes would be moved. This was a puzzle to mom. One day Angie told me she and Jake had been by mom's and she wasn't home. Then Angie tells me they waited long enough for Jake to jump into grandma shoes and dance a jig before taking off. So I had the answer for mommy when she said her shoes had been moved again. Every time Angie and Jake took a bike ride, they rode to mom's and if she wasn't home, Jake danced in her shoes. My mom laughed till she cried when I told of her Jake doing that. Funny the things we remember. If it's possible hug your mom today. XO
My mom is 77 years old. I can't imagine not having her in my life. Sending you a hug today :)! Blessings from Missouri.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have you mom for a long time to come. Please let her know how much you love her. Bless your heart, xoxo,Susie
DeleteGood Morning, We all miss our mom's. They are always with us in our memories which is something that can't be taken away from us. I have enjoyed catching up with you this morning. I am curious if we are going to get the snow that they said was coming our way. Have a great day. Hugs and Prayers from Your Missouri Friend Shirley
ReplyDeleteHi Shirley, I think of you whenever I hear Missouri is having bad weather. I know you have to drive just about everyday to see your husband. I hope he is having good days. We are to get about 2 inches of snow today. We got very lucky the last two snows. Shirley, I am so spoiled from the good days , that I am longing for spring already. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteI hug my mother with my heart. Stay warm and cozy.
ReplyDeleteSylvia, I love your comment. I do not think we ever stop longing for our parents. Hope you are having a good day. Stay safe. xoxo,Susie
DeleteWhat a wonderful story. Dancing shoes. I love it. I miss my mom and it's been so many years (1991) but a Mom is a Mom. Wish you had a video of the shoe dance.
ReplyDeleteWanda, I wish I did have a video of that. :):) My mom will have been gone 9 years this coming Sept. She loved spring and got the blues in the fall, although she loved the colors of at that time of year. Wanda, my mom would be down right testy in the winter, never liked it. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteI love that story of Jake and your mom's 'dancing shoes'! Hugs for you today...mom's just can't be replaced when they move on. Love your big hair!
ReplyDeleteTete, I have to admit I laughed too when Angie told me about Jake dancing in mom's shoes. Because I could just see my mom trying to figure out what was happening on her porch. Some times, I wish I had that big hair again. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteSusie, I can just see Jake dancin' in your mom's shoes. What a delightful story, and I bet Jake will remember doing this when he gets older haha. This is a treasured picture of your and your mom, Susie.
ReplyDeleteFrom one girl missing her mom to another, I'm sending you a big hug and lots of love.
~Sheri
Thank you so much Sheri. I love thinking about this little story. :):) Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteOh, and I can't believe you did all that work shoveling your driveway - it looks great!
ReplyDeleteSheri, I shoveled it three times. so it would not be big heavy shovels full. I just push it to the sides, especially if it's a wet snow. Fluffy stuff is no worry, but that wet snow is dangerous. I do it in shifts, taking breaks. Bless you, xoxo,Susie
DeleteHi Susie, what a wonderful memory; my mom's bd is Feb. 22nd. She's been gone for 40 yrs-hard to believe. I too miss her.
ReplyDeleteWe've got snow today too. Tomorrow is supposed to be really warm.
Hugs, Noreen
Hi Noreen, I hope you are doing well. You know, I think we never loss our longing to hug our parents. We are having snow again and now have about 3 inches....it was suppose to be 2...hard to get it right, I guess. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteSo happy you have such wonderful memories of your mom. You can have those in your heart forever. Hope you are staying warm.
ReplyDeleteKris
Thank you Kris. Some times it seems mom has been gone so long and other times it seems to have just happened. We have old movies to see her some times. We have gotten 3 inches of new snow since 3 o'clock. I have a feeling Feb. is going to be rough. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteLove stories like that! My mom will be 80 on the 9th - our family will be getting together for her big celebration. She's a lively one who doesn't slow down! I can't wait to see her.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your memories.
Saimi
Hi Saimi, Thank you for stopping by. I wish you would hug your mom for me. My mom could be a spit fire at times....with eleven kids she had to be tough. Blessings to you, your family and your mom, xoxo,Susie
DeleteCute story, Susie. You've been very busy with that shoveling! Nothing here, though there is a cold front due overnight. xo Nellie
ReplyDeleteNellie, I am almost afraid Feb. is going to be a rough month. It is snowing since 3 o'clock and we have 3 inches of snow now. It's all fluff. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteCute story Susie. Thanks for sharing. It is funny what we remember. Enjoy the snow!
ReplyDeleteMissy, I enjoy he snow when it is melting. :) I hope you didn't get too much there. It makes our lawns pretty but makes traveling hard. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteIt's fun to remember, even if it brings tears at times. You have some sweet memories...and I love that. Some things stick with us. Sometimes I will say.."Oh my gosh! I haven't thought of that in YEARS!" It's neat.
ReplyDeleteMona, I find it odd at the things we do remember from our childhoods. I try to not think too long on the bad memories. Bless you, xoxo,Susie
Deletep.s. Lots of warnings on the new of people dying while shoveling snow..and not only older folks..so please..be careful.
ReplyDeleteYes, every time I shovel I think about this. I do it in shifts and take breaks. I never lift the heavy wet stuff.. I push the shovel in small paths. Thanks you for thinking of me. xoxo,Susie
DeleteLoved the dancing in the shoes story Susie! I too miss my mom so very much. Your hair is not too big, just right! lol! We need a bit of your snow. Loving the record warm temps we are getting. I mean, never remember a time when I gardened the first week in Feb. But I did today. We will be sorry this summer if we don't get a little more!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
Jann, That is an old picture, my hair is not as big but it's longer than I want. I whack on it some times. LOL I hope the state s that need the snow/rain get enough.... I hate when places get too much at once. Take care, bless you, xoxo,Susie
Deletep.s. I told Kris about your " sweet" kindness to me. :)
I loved your story about Jake and the shoes! Sweet photo and memories. You are so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThank you Cheryl, That is an old picture, as our Jake is 23 now. I wish I could have seen Jake in mommy's shoes. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteOh my gosh, I thought your Mom was you! You look like her. That is so cute about Jake and the shoes. I bet she saved those shoes forever just for the memory! You might have shoveled that driveway, but if you got what we got last night, it's iced over and covered again. Stay warm and safe.
ReplyDeleteCindy Bee
Cindy, I know I look like mom, :):) I always say we turn into our mothers when we reach a certain age. LOL. Yes, I did a bit of shoveling this morning. It was all fluff this time. I am ready for spring, tired of walking like Tim Conway. xoxo,Susie
DeleteSusie,
DeleteYou're retired. Stock up on groceries, and stay inside. Stop shoveling. Because everytime you do, you jinx it to snow!
