It's Work....

This Hickory tree was about 40 feet tall . It is now half that tall.  There's plenty of branches to trim off first.
We used our electric chain saw.  Because of all the stops and starts involved for branch trimming. Can you see what was left of the juniper tree. Remember the one I was always trimming on , trying to have that spiral effect?  LOL. Well I won't be cutting on it any longer...it's a goner.
I am allowed to used the chain saw only on  branches and small limbs , because of the danger of kick backs.
This electric saw is bigger than the one we used to have. I would take it to my mom's and trim the dead out of her lilacs....which were as tall as trees. :)
Ted had to run to get his meds and some oil and a filter for his truck. Then we will be trimming again.  We may get to the actual trunk of the fallen part today. Then I think our neighbor may have to help , because the trunk is leaning on the remaining part of the tree. Too dangerous.  Professional tree trimmers are really charging right now, when people need so many trees trimmed or cut down.  We will keep this hard wood to burn.  There will be holes in the yard to fill and seed, I am sure.
Hopefully we will be finished this week on this cutting, hauling and stacking. Wishing all of you a fun day. That would be a "no cutting trees day to me right now " :):)

    1. I'll have to show it all cleaned up , when we are finished. LOL. Diane, I can tell my strength is waning the older I get...so I am going to be trying to lift some weights and do stretching exercise. I do shovel snow and sweep the drives , go/down the stairs to do laundry every other day. But I guess I need more, LOL or stop getting so darn old. Bless you, xoxo,Susie

  5. wow, Susie, what a chore this is going to be for you and Ted. I hate to see trees that got torn down from the storms because I love trees so. Good luck in clearing everything out, Susie. I can't believe you know how to use a chainsaw hehehe.

    1. Sheri, I had to laugh at what you said...There was a time when I didn't know a things about tools. But then I was wanting a better job and became an electrician at G.M. So I learned to use tools.:):) A chain saw is just dangerous if you do not think ahead. We are done now. Love you, Susie

  9. You are a very brave lady with that chainsaw in hand. How sad to lose trees. Our son recently lost three due to the storms. Be safe. It will make a nice warm fire for you this winter.

    1. Nonnie, when we burn this old hickory we will think of all this work and the wonderful shade we used to get for that tree. We are done, the hard part that is. Bless you, xoxo,Susie

  10. I second that with the chainsaw. You be careful. I hope ya'll have it down by now and everything went well. We had a bunch of poplar trees cut a few years ago but power lines were tangled in them so we were able to get the power co. to cut them. Tree trimmers are very expensive around here as well. Hugs, xo

    1. Susie, The part that came down had all the limbs and leaves on it. We will leave what is standing to drop it's leaves then we will cut the rest down..late this fall. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  11. The tree trimmers always come in full force after we've had bad weather - ice and/or high winds. And they are so expensive. Sorry for your loss. Don't overdo trimming those trees.

    1. Judy, It's a shame people can't be kind when they are needed...instead of pricing things higher. We will miss this shade tree. xoxo,Susie

    1. Cindy, I make up two gallons of tea for our breaks. We took time out to eat our lunches, then some breaks ...it was a tough job for a couple of aging retirees. But God helped us through. :) Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  14. What a HUGE job!!!! You two are amazing! You will be enjoying that wood this winter and I can hear you both now......
'Remember how HARD we worked and how HOT we got and how TIRED we were?'
NOW would be a good time for all young healthy male relatives to come over for a pot luck and WORK PARTY!!! Any takers? The you can invite them all back when it's a cold snowy day for chili in front of the fireplace burning all that good wood!!

    1. Linda, I almost hate to say this...but I don't think many of our young male relatives could work as hard as Ted and I. Plus herding them up would be a miracle. Then, we would worry about them getting hurt. It's just as easy to do it all ourselves. We are done now except for splitting the rest of the wood and stacking it. I may not help with that as my arms feel so long and my ankles hurt too much. Blessings, love, Susie

  15. Big work! We've avoided the brunt of the storms and it's just hot and humid. I saw that one of the places I visited over the weekend was hit by a tornado. Wishing you a safe no-tree cutting summer.
