Storm Damage....

We lost our front yard hickory tree. Our only major shade tree in front. See my daughter's husband's truck. Kathy stayed all night here. We lost power for over 5 hours.  I am still so thankful that the tree did not fall on the truck..it fell the other way. Plus It did not fall on the house or garage/shop.  It did also take out the juniper tree by the flag pole. Bent the flagpole to the east a bit.
This is a before shot, you can see how tall it was. We can not save it, the main trunk is broken . The neighbor lost half of one of his apple trees. The storm hit at 2:00 , the power and the tree both went at 2:15.  There's trees down all over town. They were showing pictures on the news broadcast this morning. I am ever so thankful the power is back on.
Ted and I will have plenty of work this coming week.  Of course he will save the hickory wood for burn ...maybe around February . It has to season.
Hope all of you are safe and faired well through the storms.  XO

  1. So sorry about your tree! Just glad it didn't fall on the truck and/or house. Isn't it just amazing what those storms can demolish?

  2. Susie,
Sorry you lost your tree. Those storms were pretty nasty. We had some storms this way but not as bad as you guys got. Glad you can at least salvage the wood for next winter. Hope Ted has a great day today for Father's Day.

  4. We had a storm like that here last summer. So many trees down. The only silver lining was that everyone had plenty of firewood last winter.

    1. Jo(e) , you are right about fire wood. When I drove to town, I saw so many limbs and trees stacked on the curbs. Some people lost parts of their roofs. That was some fierce winds. Bless you, xoxo,Susie

    1. Hi Debbie, You are so kind. My daughter was here for the weekend and she helped me put the picture on my profile. LOL. I do thank God for keeping an eye on us here. Even the neighbors just lost small limbs and such. No structure damage. There were some homes in town that lost roofs , some trees on cars. It was scary. Hope your husband had a good father's day. I love you my friend, Susie

  11. Glad you're safe and the tree didn't hit anything. Hate it when the power goes out, must have air conditioning. We've thought about getting a generator.

    1. BJ, I have to count my blessings...as to where and how that tree fell. We noticed that it was the hardwood trees that lost their tops...they do not bend like soft wood trees. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  13. Boy that's tough Susie. We had a good amount of rain and some wind but nothing like that.
To answer a question you asked me about the Gingerbread Cottages, We always travel just before or just after the summer season. Only a few had cars parked in front of them. I wouldn't want to be there during the summer.

    1. Sheri, we hated to lose that shade out front. I will have to study up on fast growing trees that do not attract starlings, as I truly hate those nasty birds. LOL. Bless you honey, love, Susie
