Summertime Is Here......

As kids growing up, summertime began on Memorial day when school let out. Now I think of the 4th of July as the true summer. I am sure hoping we have some summer days ...and I am not talking about high temperatures....we had that along with the rain in June. Our June, which is usually the sweetest month was actually a rough one.
The top photo was from last July. I did not decorate for the 4th this year...other than flags outside.  This cute picture is from the Horton's store last summer. I think someone bought that cute truck, as I have not seem it in any of the displays.
This 4th will be our family's first without our brother Mark. He always made mommy's potato salad. He could make as near to the way she did. Mom did take some pride in how everyone loved it.:):)
I know that many of you will be without loved ones also.  Sending hugs to all of you. Let us keep a happy thought for those that are no longer with our families.  May God bless us and keep us safe. XO

  2. We are without many here, too. I hope one of you picks up the potato salad job and runs with it. Maybe time to teach the next generation the art of momma's best potato salad ever. I have taught my boys to make all the special things that we do when we get together, so they can carry one and add their own, too. Have a happy 4th- girl.

    1. HI Tete, That is so sweet you have taught your sons how to make their favorite things to eat at holidays. My mom was not a good cook...never nothing to cook with . But she could make good fried chicken, potato salad and peaches and dumplings. Bless your heart, you make me smile. xoxo,Susie

  3. Such a sweet post, Susie. It is so hard to go through that "first" after you have lost someone. Our holiday was Thanksgiving without our son and although that was 12 years ago, it still seems so fresh. Days do get better though..Judy

  4. Oh Susie, your first Fourth of July without your brother, Mark. That will be hard on the family. I didn't decorate much this year either, not sure why. I didn't see many decorations out there this year. Love that truck though, especially with all the red flowers.

Happy Fourth of July, dear Susie.

    love, ~Sheri

    3. Susie, just found out that my brother-in-law's condition is not good. Keep saying prayers for him and all the family during this hard time. Thank you, sweet friend. My husband has 6 brothers, and this one is his best friend. We're all saddened right now, but having blog friends like you really helps.

      love you.

  5. Hi Susie, God bless you as you remember Mark. Holidays are always difficult after losing a loved one. I did not decorate either. In fact, we haven't been able to fly our flag as it is raining/thundering like crazy the last few days. Quiet day at home for us as family is scattered all over the country. We'll probably enjoy a hot dog! Love you.

Tomorrow is the 2nd hot dog I eat thru the year. The first is at my daughter's class picnic. :):) Enjoy your time with your husband . Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  6. Happy 4th Susie. Summer is finally arriving for us all in the Midwest. That rain in June was horrible so it is nice to finally see some nice weather this week end for the holiday. Enjoy.

  8. What a sweet post.....we just heard yesterday of the death of a loved one. She was no real relation to me but she was the grandmother of four of Louis Dean's grandchildren. I met her on several ocassions and she was a classy lady. We talked with the grandson we are close to this morning.
I offered to make potato salad for the get together at Amber's tomorrow but she declined. She said Louis Dean and I would be the only ones to eat it!!
I will stop for a side dish at Central Market on our way over tomorrow evening!
    Happy Fourth, sweet friend!!!

    1. Linda, So sorry about a friend passing. I think you can admire , or love people and feel pain when they pass. You do not have to be related. I have cried over people who never knew I existed...because I always admired them or care about them. With all the things the quads will eat, I am surprised they won't eat potato salad. They do seem to willing to try new foods. Blessings to all of you. Love you, Susie

  10. For the first time in the last twelve years, we will be alone on the 4th. Just the way it is sometimes, I guess. I'm sorry you are missing your brother, Mark. That is a hard thing to go through all the firsts without the ones we loved so much. Hugs to you, and hoping somebody else figures out that potato salad. I love a good potato salad and made one for Father's Day. Today I made pot roast with veggies, pea salad and a huge pan of brownies. Xoxo, Connie
