At Last....

As sweet Etta James would say, at last. :):) We trimmed branches and limbs, then Ted put a snatch strap on a big limb and used the golf cart to pull the center piece down. He is showing his muscle after getting it on the ground. Now the  real danger was over.
This is the pile of smaller limbs. to be stacked on Thursday.

Then I carried these sections and had to roll a few of the bigger ones. Just getting it contained.
Ted hooked up the log splitter and got to work splitting and threw the pieces in the trailer. As you can see it's hooked to the golf cart...which we call our mule. That old golf cart has paid for it's self many times.
This is all that's left of our hickory tree. We are leaving it, even though it's very sad, right now.  When the leaves fall off later this coming fall we will take the rest down. Look at that beautiful blue sky we had all day. We took plenty of breaks and had cool drinks of water and tea. So the hard and dangerous part is over. Come Thursday  Ted will split the rest of the wood and I will help him stack it. Then maybe we can rest. LOL.
Thank you to all who warned us and worried for us.  Love your concern and I am so grateful for my blog friends and family.  Wishing you a nice Wednesday. XO

  1. I thought that maybe you had tornado of something. I glad everything went well and no body got hurt. I don't like those chain saws. They frighten me.
It seems everything is OK and you all are safe & sound. Have a great day Susie. See ya.

    1. Cruising Paul, They called it straight line winds. It took lots of hickoerys and oaks out as they are hard wood and do not bend. But in our town, there was lots and lots of tree damage and some roofs too. A wind was blown out of the courthouse. Thank you Paul, we are save and the really hard part is over. Stacking wood is no picnic but it's way easier than cutting and raking. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  3. Ted must know what he's doing to accomplish that task on his own!
It sound like that golf cart gets a good workout too.

    1. On his own, I was there every step of the way working beside him. LOL. Yes, he does know the procedure. We have burned wood for ten years now and he had all the equipment for cutting lumber. We would be lost without our golf cart. Some times we run it down the road to cool ourselves off. LOl. Hope you are doing well and getting time with your families. xoxo,Susie

  5. I have to confess, Susie, that I have to go back in the house whenever BG gets his chainsaw out to use. They scare me! It's a shame your nice tree has to be taken down. Your golf cart is handy. I wish we had one to tool around on the Back 6! Have a nice day!

    1. Cheryl, It sounds like you need one for that much room. :):) I know that you can get yourself in some scary situations with a chain saw. Ted's tree trimming friend when serious wood cutting by himself and cut his leg...big mistake. To not have worn his chaps. There's rules of stance and it's important to keep your footing solid. 1. Mildred, You know it was a lose of the best shade...but as you said we are so blessed it fell like it did. Not on the shop , house or my daughter's husband's new truck. It did wipe out the juniper tree I have been trimming on since I planted it. LOL So I do count my blessings. xoxo,Susie

  10. Wow-That is a big job, Susie! Lots of work but I know you are glad to have it done. Is there one big limb still sticking up above the rest or is that from a tree behind it?
Love that you have a golf cart for a "mule". lol xo Diana

    1. Diana, That limb sticking up is already dying and it's too far up to reach. We are going to let the leaves fall of this fall and then we'll take the rest of the tree down. I have to be thinking of something to plant that might grow quickly and not attract starlings (nasty birds). We are going to miss that shade. That old mule of a cart has been handy. Of course Ted is always saying I work him like a borrowed mule. To which I say , Hee-haw, hee-haw. Bless you, xoxo,Susie

  11. It must have been hard breaking to let go off that tree. those logs look like you can make something cute out of them. May be a couple of stools that children can sit on in the yard.
Thank you for stopping by. I have been reading a lot of posts but did not get a chance to write comments. Work has been crazy.

  13. Hi Susie, What a lot of work. When we lived in Ca. we always bought cords of wood and had to stack it. I remember spending several days working on it. We just have gas fire places-which is easy and cheaper. Love that hard working spirit of yours.

    1. Noreen, I love to work ...but it takes me a day to get back to being able to walk well after I over do . We try to only burn hard wood, because the give you more btu's. My husband makes the best fire starters with wood shavings and old left over candles. I did enjoy being able to help Ted...we work well together. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
