Calm & Sunny......

What to do on a calm sunny day....make a fire as big as a house. Yikes.  Ted and our neighbor burned  all the tree and yard brush from the storms, yesterday. They are near by with a tractor that has a scoop on the front.  You know for mashing the blaze or rolling it over.  Since it was so calm they got it burned in a couple hours. This is actually an opening, not really as near the trees as it appears.
While "keeping" an eye on the fellows, I snapped a few photos in the yard.  Our cone flowers are doing well.
This hydrangea is looking droopy. It is very healthy close up. I could not believe all the weeding I need to do. The weeds are going to take over, or I will have to do it on a very windy day. I could barely get to the watering hose for the mosquitoes.  Please believe me they are in abundance.   At least our weather is to be dry till this coming weekend.  Not that you can be in the flowerbed or even sit out for the bugs.   I am thinking of taking the huge shop fan on the porch, so I can sit out. You know, bugs and mosquitoes do not like wind. LOL.
Wishing everyone a great day. XO

  1. Putting a fan on you to discourage the bugs is a great idea...we've done that before. Enjoy your day sweet friend and thanks for always taking the time to leave me a sweet comment. It means a lot to me. Hugs, Diane

    1. Linda you know it's sad when you can't enjoy your porch. We have an overhead fan...but it's not powerful enough for all the bugs this year. LOL. Bless you, xoxo,Susie

  4. The mosquitoes are terrible here, too and the heat is so hot, I can't bear to think of pulling weeds even though I see them everywhere. My flowers in pots on the patio are doing well though. The fan is a good idea. I think your hydrangea looks pretty good. They are long gone here! Blessings.

  5. Hi Susie,
Your flowers looks great. You need to get a bat house for your property. We got one a few years ago and have not had the mosquito problem. Each bat eats over 1000 mosquitos a day. They only come out at night and do not bother anyone. You have to put the bat house away from the main house so out on your property. They need to be near water and trees which it sounds like you have. The females are the only ones allowed in the house and one female becomes the matriarch and takes care of the babies while the other hunt and eat the mosquitoes. The male bats are not allowed near the house lol! I did not believe this until my friend told me and we put one in the back of our yard and now we are pretty much mosquito free. I have never seen the bats because they come out late right before dusk to feed. Just an idea.

    1. Thank you Kris. I am going to tell Ted this. We have barn swallows who eat bugs too. I have seen bats around here last year. But I am getting a house if it helps. Ted has not been fogging for them this year either. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  6. The fan is a great idea! We use two fans in the gazebo. Do you use Avons Skin so Soft? It's a very good mosquito repellent! We have lots of bird feeders and with the birds and the geckos, it has helped our mosquito problem immensely! Also, they don't seem to think louis dean and I are as tasty as other people! They are always all over Logan unless I spray her down first!

    1. Linda, I am getting some of that Avon lotion. I will take a bath in it if I have too. I do not like wearing deep woods off ..hate that smell. Poor Logan..I always worry for Emma...they almost carry that sweet girl away. LOL. Tell Logan she is too sweet. I wish I had a Gecko on a stick....to hold while sitting . :):) Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  7. Susie ~ It looks like you have a wonderful yard. I love the cone flowers, and I had to leave my hydrangea plant behind...no room here at the Villa. I guess I could get a small potted one.
I enjoyed your comment on my blog..HaHa.

    1. Wanda, If you get sun on your balcony, you could probably try a potted hydrangea. I would love an English garden with roses and hydrangea everywhere. I am thinking or re-doing our front flower beds after this year...they are thick with mums and so the mosquitoes have plenty of hiding places. Ewweee. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

    1. Missy, What is your bug suit like..can you post a photo? I think about wearing long pants, sleeved shirts and a hood. LOL. I am pleased with our coneflowers. I had some in town and they really did well there. Twice as many. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  9. Hi there. The fan is a great idea. We have so many weeds, they have taken over. Not good when your house is on the market. Just not any time for either of us to address. We called for help. I think I am physically drained. I think I took three naps today. Over nighters tomorrow. And I will probably be heading back to help my mom. Hoping my brother stays a little longer. She had a 103 temp this afternoon. They are trying a super strong antibiotic and then will decide when the tests come back. Not sure why that is taking so long. Hugs

    1. Debby, I wish I could help you. I know for a fact that no matter how many children in a family...not all will help with the parents. I always feel if they can't physically help they should financially. Some will not do either. Take care of yourself too Debby. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  10. Glad they got all the debris burned. I love your coneflowers and hydrangea. I haven't worked in the yard this year due to my ankle, but John says our mosquitoes are horrible too. Hope you have a restful night. xoxo

    1. Milred, I am for no more high winds or storms...so our yard burn pile will stay low..we leave small branches in it during winter, for little birds to hide in. Your husband is so right the mosquitoes are the worst I have ever seen. Bless you,, hope your ankle heals . xoxo,Susie

  11. Your yard looks so nice with the pretty flowers, Susie. Coneflowers are one of my favorites. We have had a ton of mosquitoes this year, I guess all the rains have brought them out in full force. Take care!

  12. Sorry about the bugs..Toms friend used to take a box fan camping..to keep the bugs away! If I had a nice porch to sit out on..that's exactly what I'd do!!

    1. Gert, Those old box fan come in handy. I like to use one lots in the basement. It helps keep it dry and it also bothers spiders and the noise may help keep mice away. We rarely have them. Which is another thing I do not like in my house. LOL. Bless you, xoxo,Susie

  13. People used to burn stuff like leaves and branches and the like around here but it's been illegal for about 40 years. I suppose it makes sense since there are so many of us in a small area. My city has a population of about 58,000, the next city which borders Boston has 75,000 and Cambridge which is a stones throw from here and also borders Boston has 100,000 people so the banning of outdoor burning of things is probably a good idea.

    1. Boston Boy, We have had red flag days(no Burning) but not with all this wetness and water still standing in areas. NO wonder your traffic is so crazy..yikes that's a lot of people. The town Kokomo, northof here has about 55, 000..our town is 15,000 and I am not sure about the big 3 south of us, Carmal, Fishers, and Indy. LOTS. :):) Bless you, be safe on those roads. xoxo,Susie
