This old place is called "Northside Cafe". It's been here in Tipton for many years. To the left was an old grocery store. It just was torn down 2 months ago. It was actually crumbling down, very dangerous. This cafe is what I sometimes refer to as a greasy spoon. I had a cup of coffee there after I retired. Every walk of life in this town eats in there. Their prices are very cheap. They serve meat and potatoes and lots of gravy....not what I like to eat :):) but a hard working man would love it. When you think about it, it's as healthy as fast food, I would guess. I think lots of people do not get those types of "home cooked meals" any more, maybe that's the allure . At lunch it's hard to get a space to park there. This cafe is in a grouping of old brick buildings. It all was called the northside when I was young. I remember a barber shop, dry cleaners, the grocery, an appliance store, a service station (gas station for you young folks) and a bar. Things have changed, no barber shop, no grocery, no dry cleaners and the appliance store is a bar now.
I love little diners like this, Susie...real stick to your ribs food!! lol! They are part of the charm of old towns!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend, Susie!
XO,
Jane
I'd like to try it. I like down home places for especially for breakfast. Have a sweet Saturday!
ReplyDeleteThose little diners are fun to find. My hubby likes to find them when we travel. Our old town looks nothing like it did when I was a kid..it all changed and there was bad flooding back in the late 70's. Most things never were rebuilt. xo Diana
ReplyDeletei think every town in the south has a spot like this and the locals gather at noon there...

Oh I like that idea of just swapping stuff with our friends
Funny, I grew up not to far away from where you reside. And yes there is a diner like this in most small towns. These diners are where my hubs likes to go when we are on the road, which is not often but we are usually very happy with what we get. Breakfast is my favorite meal to have somewhere like this.
ReplyDeleteHi Susie!
ReplyDeleteI am loving my visit to Tipton through your lens.
The hardware store is charming. I love a restaurant where the locals gather. We have a restaurant next to our office where the waitresses have served for over 30 years. They have a clientele that tips well and brings them flowers and gifts. Too sweet!
Happy Weekend!
