When my mother passed away, I planted a rose in her memory. The first one didn't make it the next spring, so I planted another. This is called "Perfume Delight Rose". It's a hybrid tea rose. The first year it only had two roses on it. I said one was for mom and one was for me.
I took both these photos yesterday afternoon. There's going to be plenty of roses this year. It reminds me of a rose bush that I had in town...so hardy. This rose in being tied to the fence rails. It grabs you when you walk by. You can see the shadow of the fence. It's a faded split rail fence and the rose looks just right on it. When it's in full bloom, I'll get another picture. I do not seem to have the touch for roses. I love the fragrance of roses. Enjoy this nice day. xo
Susie, sweetheart, it looks as if the graft on your 'Perfume Delight' rose has died and now by its rootstock rose is growing to take its place ... the once-blooming red climbing rose that's everywhere. It's tough to grow Hybrid Tea roses in places with really cold, harsh winters. One blog that I love that has great recommendations for cold-weather roses is "Rose Musings". He lives in prairie Kansas, with cold AND wind, and he has some great recommendations for roses that do well in his garden.

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea to plant a rose in memory of your Mom.
Is it a tea rose? It looks similar to one my g'ma had.
So sweet to have a rose in your mother's memory!
ReplyDeleteOur best bet for roses around here is the Knock-out Rose.
ReplyDeleteYellow roses were my mother's favorite. I'd like to have one in her memory.
We are blessed, Susie, to have good memories of our mothers. It is an honor to have a rose in your mother's memory.
Hugs,
Nellie
I love roses, too and get quite a few blooms on ours but they still never get full and bushy. I love your sweet post my friend. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteRoses on a split rail fence. Nothing lovlier...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful memories & perfect setting for the rose, Susie.
ReplyDeleteI have posted many, many times of the barns in PA. They are gorgeous ... do you live in PA? LMK

So pretty. Such a sweet idea. I hope you enjoy every one of the roses this year!
ReplyDeleteHi Susie, Roses are hard to grow and require a lot of love is what I was told. I love your roses and the special rose that you have planted for your mom. It will give you lots of memories as it blooms. It makes you feel or would me that she was there with me. Have a wonderful day and I have enjoyed catching up with your previous post. Hugs and Prayers from Your Missouri Friend.
ReplyDeleteRoses can definitely be tricky to grow. This one seems to have found its place. What a nice tribute to your mom.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Laura
It's gorgeous and what a wonderful story attached to it. I lost all 4 rose bushes I had due to the cold winter we had. I transplanted them late in the season and they didn't have time to "take". xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI have a climbing rose in town and this year it has taken over the back yard! Must be because I wasn't around to mess with it!
