I Had Two Fathers....

I did have two fathers....you can call me lucky or not. My father was an abusive alcoholic. I know he worked hard, he was a carpenter. He beat our mother and all us kids. I know now it was because of his drinking. But I never stopped loving my father ever. Then mommy married my step father. Oh the fights they had were so embarrassing and scary .They drank too much .They both settled down, as they got older. My step father respected us kids, cause mom make us respect him. He was very good to all of us. We loved him .I miss all my parents....I try to remember the good stuff. xoxo

  1. That's sounds so sensible! So often we remember and go over the bad 'stuff' and it just wears us down. Hope you have a good day anyway. Joan

  2. Oh, Susie- I wish everyone could have a wonderful father. MyHero had a father that was not ideal either and he learned (through counseling) that he had to be Re-fathered by THE perfect Father, God, and had to let go of the pain and sorrow.

You have a good mindset. I, too, have loved people that have hurt me-in spite of themselves-xo Diana

  3. It is good to focus on the better things. My parents drank alot as well. My dad was abusive to me but only a few times. They didn't argue that much. I am sorry for your childhood. It's hard. Glad you are the person that you are today. (((((HUGS))))

  5. My Dad & his entire male family members were alcoholics, & abusive. We had no relationship, with no regrets. All I can do is hope that God forgave him/them for what they did to so many.

I am so sorry that you had to endure this setting in your life, but am happy you are fine & have good thoughts looking back in love.

    Have a lovely week ~

  6. When one faces adversity in her childhood, she can either be damaged by it and end up going along a bad path or go the other way and become the opposite. You obviously faced your adversity and used it to become stronger and wiser. xo

  7. On a positive note: Our Grandpa-your stepdad-was an awesome grandpa. always there for us, generous and full of great stories. And when we lost our Dad, Ted stepped in to love us as his own.

  9. It must have been painful and confusing to you as a child, Susie, but now that you have adult understanding you can realize that alcohol was the culprit for your father's abuse. Misuse of alcohol ruins so many lives. I'm glad you cna concentrate on the good times and let the bad ones go.

  10. I think you have the best outlook in remembering the good stuff. I think people tend to forget that alcoholism is an illness, it isn't just a poor life choice. It affects those who have it in different ways. Difficult to be sympathetic though, when it makes someone abusive.

  11. It's good that you try to remember the good. I think it is sad when people have to drink to mask their emotions, but we all cope differntly just as I'm sure you had so much to cope with as well. I hope you were able to enjoy yesterday in spite of your memories.
