A Different World....

Yesterday  I had to go to the grocery, I stopped off at the park. I just wanted to get some pretty fall pictures. I will tell you this story that  happened while I was there at the park
I was taking this photo of this tree, when I heard many rounds of gunfire. I went back to my car. I heard more rounds and it was coming from the direction of our school. Our school is just across from the park. I was instantly sick to my stomach.  You just think, no a shooting could never happen in our schools. But so many have happened in many towns. No one wants to automatically think that. But I did...I was so taken aback by the sounds of the gunfire. So many rounds of it.
I got in my car and drove to where the park supervisor was helping on a project. I ask him had he heard that gunfire. He said , "what gunfire?" I told him I heard it twice and it seemed to be in the direction of our school. He said, "Oh I hope not." The fellow with him said it's probably  the shooting range for the police. Thank you God was all I could think at that moment.
This is our school you can see on the way out of the park. The shooting range that I know about is about 2 miles from town. Maybe they need it to be elsewhere.  I never dreamed you could hear gun fire in town from that range. I will tell all of you this...I had to pull over and park....then I cried. I cried for the way the world has changed.  I know I would never have thought about a shooting at any school before these past few years. That incident made me so emotional. Some of you will think "she's crazy", some of you might understand, but I truly hope none of you feel like I did at that time when I heard the gunfire.

  1. When you get to the very back of my favorite park....it's close enough to a shooting range to hear. I always turn back on the trail if I hear shots. It does get to you, even though I grew up with hunters in my family. You sure saw some lovely colors. It seems like the leaves are changing and getting prettier all during the week. Sweet hugs!

  3. Susie, I was just thinking this morning of the wonderful, carefree childhood I had, and how I wish the children of today could live the life I lived. And it was the 60's and 70's for crying out loud. All I ever heard growing up was how crazy this world is getting from those long haired singers that brought drugs over from Europe!!! LOL! Hugs girlfriend. You're not crazy.

  4. So sad, Susie that children today have to grow up with the reality of that fear. When it affect those of us who are adults so deeply, we can only imagine how it affects children. xo Laura

  5. Oh, Susie- I teared up just reading this. It is so awful what our world has come to-when we have to be afraid for the safety of our kids-in school or out. I worry what the next years will bring-how bad it will get.

Our world is changing and unless people stand up for what is right and the right people get in power we will continue to see a deterioration of our country. Sad-but true- xo Diana

  6. I don't think you are crazy at all! I cry for the safer world we grew up in that our grandchildren will never know. So very sad, but God is good so I keep clinging to that!

  8. Not crazy at all, Susie. We care and that's why we shed the tears. Such a scary world we live in. Not at all the one we grew up in. How sad for the children of today that they will never know the happiness we had.

  9. I would have reacted the same way Susie. I don't think any of our schools are immune to this violence now and it's so sad. How scary that you can hear the firing range from the park. They are usually located so far from city's centers. The department my husband worked at for for 25 yrs had their firing range up a canyon a long way from anything.
Your fall photos are so beautiful Susie and even though it ended up being an emotional event, they are lovely.
    hugs to you...

  10. I don't blame you for getting emotional. It seems that all we ever hear about these days is mass shootings somewhere. It is scary! So glad to hear that it wasn't anything bad.

  11. Oh I feel so bad for you. I am sure that you were scared out of your mind. Thinking of what was going on so close by. I would have been frozen in fear knowing my grandbabies were inside. It's not crazy at all. My daughter has been so close to some school shootings and my son......as a agent/officer it is just horrific. I hope that doesn't scar you forever. ((((HUGS)))0

  12. Oh to go back to the 'Andy Griffith & Mayberry' days ... seems so much a simpler time. On a positive note, however, loves the pics of the trees. Indiana is beautiful in the fall. Blessings =)
